 Founded on November 19, 2017, College of Chinese & ASEAN Arts is a fully public, non-legal-person internal comprehensive art college approved by the Chengdu Municipal People's Government to thoroughly implement the guiding principles of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, actively integrate into the national “Belt and Road” initiative, and accelerate the building of a cultural and creative center in Western China and a world cultural city. Established on the existing artistic discipline foundation of Chengdu University and under a new system and mechanism, it has relatively independent school-running autonomy. The college takes “virtue, proficiency, verity and exquisiteness” as its motto. The first dean is Mr. Yu Junjian, a musician, vocal music educator and doctoral supervisor. Currently, the college has over 260 faculty and staff members, including 7 doctoral supervisors, 89 professors and associate professors, and 99 doctors (including those pursuing doctoral degrees). In addition, more than 60 artists and art educators such as Feng Jicai, Caidan Zhuoma, Wang Xiaotang, Feng Yuan, Jidi Majia, Zhong Chengxiang, Jackie Chan, Li Guyi, Pan Gongkai, Qu Cong and Yin Xiumei are specially appointed as college consultants, members of the Academic Development Advisory Committee and visiting professors. The college comprises four teaching units: International Department, College of Fine Arts and Design, College of Film and Animation, and College of Music and Dance. It also engages art educator Peng Jixiang, artist Fan Yang, soprano Jiang Lina, Ministry of Education experts Zhou Xing and Huang Zongxian, as well as director Gao Xixi to serve as academic leaders of the college.

The college currently operates two campuses: Qinglong Lake Campus and Fenghuangshan Campus, covering a total area of approximately 2,000,000 ft² with a total construction area of about 200,000 square meters. Qinglong Lake Campus is the main campus, consisting of Chengdu-ASEAN Art Center, Chengdu-ASEAN Art Museum, library, gymnasium, sports field, teaching buildings, complex buildings, expert apartments and student dormitories. It is an important part of the Athlete Village for the 31st FISU World University Games. Located in Chengdu Fenghuangshan Park, Fenghuangshan Campus houses Teaching Buildings No. 7, No. 8 and No. 10. As the college's founding campus and research park, it is mainly used for holding important academic conferences, advanced training courses and art exchange activities.

The college currently has over 4,200 full-time undergraduate students, postgraduate students and degree-seeking international students. It offers 1 academic master's program (Design) and 4 professional master's programs (Fine Arts and Calligraphy, Design, Theatre, Film and Television, and Music). There are 11 undergraduate programs available, namely Animation, Visual Communication Design, Radio and Television Editing, Painting, Product Design, Environmental Design, Digital Media Art, Music Performance, Dance Performance and Music Education. Three programs including Animation, Radio and Television Editing and Visual Communication Design are national first-class undergraduate program construction sites, and the Painting program is selected as a provincial first-class undergraduate program construction site. At present, the college has launched joint undergraduate, master's and doctoral training programs with institutions such as Silpakorn University of Thailand, Chiang Mai University of Thailand, Payap University of Thailand, the School of the Arts of Universiti Sains Malaysia and Harbin Conservatory of Music.

The college has a number of national-level practical education bases, including the Xu Liaoyuan Modern Design Art Museum Practical Education Base, Huohou Interactive Technology Industry-University Cooperation Collaborative Education Base, and Microfilm Research and Creation Center of the University Film and Television Association of China. It also has more than 20 teaching and research platforms such as the Sichuan Provincial Key Research Base for Philosophy and Social Sciences, Sichuan Provincial Animation and Game 2011 Collaborative Innovation Center, Sichuan Provincial Key Research Institute of Chinese Culture—the Traditional Craft Research Institute, the second batch of provincial-level modern industry colleges—the Digital Art and Fashion Creative Industry College, Sichuan Provincial Science Popularization Base—Giant Panda and Golden Monkey Culture and Art Exchange Base, Sichuan, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Youth Exchange Base, “Sichuan Animation Research Center” (the only animation research center in China), Sichuan Provincial University Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, Chinese National Musical Theatre Research Center, China-ASEAN Institute of Culture and Art, Chinese National Male Tenor Research Association, and Chengdu Original Animation Center.

In the past five years, the college has obtained 20 national-level projects including National Social Science Fund General Projects, National Social Science Fund Art Projects and National Art Fund Projects, over 40 provincial and ministerial-level projects, and 113 bureau-level projects. It has won 14 Sichuan Provincial and Chengdu Municipal Philosophy and Social Science Awards, more than 30 German Red Dot Product Design Awards. Thousands of papers and works have been published, among which over 300 are included in CSSCI and Chinese core journals. 113 monographs and textbooks have been published, and more than 200 invention patents have been granted. Giving full play to the advantage of gathering renowned artists and art educators at home and abroad, the college has successively held programs such as the "Yu Junjian National Vocal Music Advanced Training Course", "Fan Yang Painting Advanced Training Course" and "Yu Junjian National Vocal Music Public Welfare Classroom". Fourteen students from the vocal music training courses and public welfare classroom have won the "Golden Bell Award" in the vocal music (national) finals of the 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th China Music Golden Bell Awards.

The college has organized a series of activities with important national influence, including eight consecutive sessions of the China Animation Academic Annual Conference, four consecutive sessions of the National Male Tenor Concert and China National Vocal Music Male Tenor Art Forum, three sessions of the China-ASEAN Youth Friendship Gala, three sessions of the "Automobile + Cultural and Creative" International Design Week. It has also successfully held events such as the China-ASEAN Culture and Art Research Academic Summit, Chinese Theatre Campus Tour and China TV Best Actor Awards Ceremony. Teacher and student painting and calligraphy exhibitions have been held at the Painting and Calligraphy Channel Exhibition Hall in Beijing and the Art Center of China Art News. The original large-scale musical Red Plum Blossoms in Bloom created and staged by the college was approved as a funded project of the National Art Fund in 2022.

Adhering to the fundamental task of "fostering virtue through education", the college attaches great importance to talent cultivation. It took the lead in establishing the Chengdu University Student Choir, which has actively participated in professional competitions and important events at home and abroad, winning the Gold Award and the Best Modern Work Interpretation Award at the 10th Vienna Peace Choral Festival. In recent years, the college has repeatedly won the first prize at the Sichuan Provincial College Students Art Festival, and its dance troupe has continuously claimed the first prize at the National College Students Art Festival Exhibition and Performance. Dance students were invited to perform at the 2023 CCTV Mid-Autumn Festival Gala. Student works have won numerous awards in various national, provincial and municipal academic competitions, and many works have been featured on platforms such as Xuexi Qiangguo and China Central TV.

As a major cultural and educational construction project in Chengdu, the college is advancing its development by leveraging the broad platform of serving the national Belt and Road Initiative, the strong support of Chengdu as a national central city, the disciplinary resources of a comprehensive university, and the advantage of gathering numerous renowned artists. Holding high the banner of cultural confidence and self-improvement, the college is striving to build itself into a high-level comprehensive art college that matches Chengdu's status as a city fully embodying new development concepts, exerts important influence in countries along the Belt and Road (especially ASEAN countries), and demonstrates outstanding competitiveness in China, contributing to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
