At 9:30 AM on May 15, 2024, CCAA hosted a spectacular artistic event—a lecture titled "The Fusion of Modern and Classical Art" by renowned Austrian painter Ewald Hinteregger. This lecture was part of the CCAA's Sino-European Humanities and Arts Series and attracted numerous students and faculty from the School of Fine Arts and Design to attend.

Dr. Hinteregger, with his profound artistic expertise and unique perspective, delivered a visual and intellectual feast on how modern and classical art intertwine and merge. The lecture covered the characteristics of European classical art as well as the development and transformation of modern art, comprehensively showcasing the evolution and innovation of art across different historical periods.

At the beginning of the lecture, Dr. Hinteregger started from the social and historical context of European classical art, providing a detailed analysis of its visual characteristics, particularly the painting techniques with strong chiaroscuro contrasts. He pointed out that classical art is not merely about formal beauty but also a profound reflection on society, history, and human nature. Through the display of exquisite artworks, the audience gained a glimpse into the rich historical and cultural significance carried by European classical art.

He explained how modern art moved away from traditional forms, shifting focus toward conceptual thinking and the use of new materials and techniques. This transformation extended beyond visual arts to include music, literature, and performance arts. Throughout this evolution, technological advancements significantly influenced artistic practices and perspectives, encouraging artists to challenge conventions and explore innovative modes of expression.

More than a knowledge-sharing session, Dr. Hinteregger’s lecture sparked intellectual dialogue. Through vivid explanations and rich examples, he guided the audience in reflecting on the significance and value of classical and modern art in contemporary contexts. Faculty and students actively engaged, posing thoughtful questions and sharing insights, with many expressing how enlightening the experience was. The lecture not only broadened students’ artistic horizons but also ignited their passion for creative exploration.
