The Academy of Arts and Design dates back to 1992 when the art major was established. With more than 20 years of development, it has more than 1300 full-time students on campus, over220 domestic graduate students, 20 international graduate students, and190 undergraduate students therein. It has 4 undergraduate majors, including visual communication design, environmental design, product design and painting. It has 1 master degree program in 2 research fields ( art and art design), with6 directions ( painting, calligraphy,arts management, visual communication design, product design,environmental design). Currently, visual communication design andproduct designare both5-star majors.
The academy has a strong faculty with 84 members and more than 20 part-time teachers. Among them, there are more than 40 associateprofessors, 20 PhD teachers, and 60 teachers with double qualifications. Among them, there are 4 candidates for academic and technical leadership in Sichuan Province, and more than 20 members of China Artists Association and China Calligraphers Association.
The academy has fruitful research achievements. Over the past three years, the academy has accomplished more than 10 National Social Sciences / Art Projects, more than 10 Ministerial/Provincial Philosophy/ Social Science Planning Projects, more than 40 Department and Bureau Level Projects. It has received 4 Provincial and Municipal Philosophy /Social Science Awards, 2 Provincial Teaching Achievement Awards, 10 German Red Dot Production Design Awards, and 100 other Awards. More than 200 research papers, 20 monographs and textbooks have been published.
The academy has more than 10 bases and platforms, including the National Educational Practice Base “Chengdu University-XLY MOMA”, Creative Automobile Design Center, Gouache and Watercolor Art Committee of Sichuan Artists Association, Comprehensive Material Art Committee of Sichuan Artists Association, Committee of Chengdu Artists Association, and Chengdu Calligraphers Creative Base, etc.
Emphasizing the integration of producing, learning and researching, as well as local service, innovative teams of teachers completed brand planning and package designs for "Very Grass", "Shuijingfang liquor", "Wuliangye liquor", "Jian’nanchun liquor", "She De liquor", "Yellow Crane Tower liquor”, “Carpenter Tan”, and “Grand Base Resources”. In addition, they completed large public sculptures like “The Treasure of Plateau” of Lhasa’s landmark, “Measure instrument in Emperor Wang Mang’s Xin Dynasty” located in Dingxi city, Gansu province, Theme relief sculpture at Lushan county in Sichuan province. In addition, they also completed hundreds of design projects, such as Jian’nanhu economic technical development zone, Sichuan Jinjiang district auditorium, Guan’an international conference center and Jiuzhaigou valley tourism image designs, bringing great social and economic benefits.
