2026 International Student Degree Program


I. Introduction to the College

College of Chinese & ASEAN Arts is a key art college established by the Chengdu Municipal People's Government in response to the Belt and Road Initiative, to promote the exchange of Tianfu culture with the world, and to help Chengdu build a world-renowned cultural and creative city.

The college comprises four schools: the School of Fine Arts and Design, the School of Film and Animation, the School of Music and Dance, and the International Department. It offers an academic master's program in Design Studies, and four professional master's programs in Fine Arts & Calligraphy, Design, Drama & Film Studies, and Music. At the undergraduate level, 11 programs are offered, including Animation, Visual Communication Design, and Radio & Television Directing. Currently, there are over 4,200 full-time students, including nearly 600 international degree students.


II. Eligibility for Application

(I) Undergraduate Applicants

1. Nationality and Identity

• Non-Chinese citizens with a valid foreign passport, of good character and sound health

• Those who are originally citizens of China must comply with the relevant regulations of the Ministry of Education (Letter No.12 [2020])

2. Educational Requirements

• Possess an educational background equivalent to Chinese high school graduation.

3. Academic Transcript

• Must provide official high school transcripts, graduation certificate (or pre-graduation certificate)

• Provide scores from national/international standardized tests (e.g., SAT, A-Level, IB)

4. Language Requirements

• Non-native Chinese speakers must provide a valid HSK Level 4 certificate (score ≥180) or above

5. Age Requirement

• Must be at least 18 years old by September 1, 2026

• Applicants under 18 must submit notarized guardian documents as required

(II) Master's Applicants

1. Nationality and Identity

• Non-Chinese citizens with a valid foreign passport, of good character and sound health

• Those who are originally citizens of China must comply with the relevant regulations of the Ministry of Education (Letter No.12 [2020])

2. Educational Requirements

• A degree equivalent to a bachelor's degree or higher in China

3. Academic Transcript

• Must provide official undergraduate transcript, diploma, and degree certificate (or proof of provisional graduation)

4. Language requirements

• Non-native Chinese speakers must provide a valid HSK Level 2 certificate (score ≥180) or above

V. Cost Standards

(I) Tuition Fees (RMB per academic year)

Undergraduate: 21,000 yuan

Master's degree: 27,000 yuan

(II) Accommodation Fees (RMB per academic year)

Double room: 8,000 yuan

4-bed room: 5,000 yuan

(III) Other Expenses

Students are responsible for settling insurance premiums, textbook fees, and other expenses not covered by the teaching plan with relevant institutions at actual prices.


VI. Scholarship Programs

The college offers a number of scholarships, which are available to eligible applicants (not available for concurrent applications).

(I) Chengdu ASEAN Art Scholarship

•Funding recipients: Outstanding international students with academic qualifications from ASEAN countries, Belt and Road countries, European and American countries, and international sister cities

• Funding standard:

Undergraduate: 30,000 yuan/year

Master's degree: 36,000 yuan/year

(II) Government Scholarship for International Students from Chengdu's Sister Cities

•Funding recipients: Outstanding international students from Chengdu's international sister cities

• Funding standard:

Undergraduate: 20,000 yuan/year

Master's degree: 25,000 yuan/year

(III) Chengdu "Belt and Road" Government Scholarship for International Students

•Funding recipients: Outstanding international students from countries along the Belt and Road

• Funding standard:

Undergraduate: 20,000 yuan/year

Master's degree: 25,000 yuan/year

(IV) Important Information about Scholarships

1. Scholarship recipients must register and attend the annual review on time. Those who fail will have their eligibility suspended or revoked.

2. Application materials will not be returned, whether admitted or not.

3. Each student can only apply for one type of scholarship.


VII. Admission and Enrollment

(I) Admissions Principles

Admissions are granted based on a comprehensive evaluation, selecting the most outstanding candidates and ensuring quality, with an emphasis on maintaining standards rather than filling quotas.

(II) Admission Notice

The admission notice will be issued within 25 working days after the completion of the application materials review.

(III) Enrollment Date

Early September 2026 (subject to official notice).

(IV) Re-examination of Qualifications

New students must take a professional competency review test upon enrollment. Those who fail or provide false materials will have their admission revoked.


VIII. Academic System and Degrees

(I) Undergraduate education

• Duration: 4 years

• Language of instruction: Chinese as the primary medium (some courses are taught in bilingual or English)

•Graduation requirements: Complete the curriculum requirements and pass the assessment

•Graduation Certificate: Graduates are awarded a diploma; those meeting the degree requirements are conferred a bachelor's degree.

(II) Master's Education

• Duration: 2 years

• Language of instruction: English as the primary medium (some courses are taught in bilingual or Chinese)

•Graduation requirements: Complete the curriculum requirements and pass the assessment

• Graduation Certificate: Graduates are awarded a diploma; those meeting the degree requirements are conferred a master's degree.

Annex 1: List of Application Materials for International Students (Undergraduate Degree)

Application Instructions

1. All materials must be uploaded as clear color scans in the online application system. After being admitted, the original documents must be verified during enrollment.

2. Incomplete materials will result in the application being rejected. During the review process, the college reserves the right to request applicants to submit original documents, notarized copies, or designated certified materials.

3. Applicants must ensure the authenticity of all information and materials provided; otherwise, their admission eligibility will be revoked.

• If the applicant is currently in China, both the current visa page and the most recent entry stamp page must be provided

• Graduating students: a "Pre-Graduation Certificate" issued by their high school

• University students: In addition to a high school diploma, a university enrollment certificate is required

• Chinese or English, with detailed content

5. Standardized Test Scores

• High school diploma scores from a country or region, or results of international standardized tests (e.g., SAT/ACT/A-Level/AP/IB)

7. Additional Materials for Nationality Change (if applicable)

• Applicable to those who were originally Chinese citizens and later became foreign nationals, they must submit according to the Ministry of Education's Letter No.12 [2020]:

Annex 3: Assessment Criteria for Undergraduate Majors

School of Fine Arts and Design

(I) Product Design

Required materials: at least 6 representative works

The content must include:

1. Structural sketch

2. Creative colors

3. Effect drawings of product design works

(Scope: Furniture, crafts, home appliances, jewelry design, etc. Include structural design drawings for better results)

(II) Visual Communication Design

Required materials: at least 10 representative works

The content must include (but is not limited to):

1. Sketch

2. Colour

3. Advertisement project

4. Brand image design

5. Digital media design

Note: Upon enrollment, the School of Fine Arts and Design will administer a professional competency test for 2026 international undergraduate students. If the test performance does not match the submitted application materials, or if plagiarism or falsification is detected, the school will initiate the expulsion process.

School of Music and Dance

(I) Music Performance

1. Written materials

• Personal Resume (CV)

• A 2-3 page English self-introduction essay, which should include:

①Understanding of "What Does It Mean to Become a Musician"

② Career goals and implementation plans for the next five years

③ Understanding of Chengdu, China culture and social values, and its impact on the realization of personal goals

• Two recommendation letters

• Previous performance repertoire list

2. Music video material

(1) Content Requirements

① Violin direction (no need to memorize the score)

a. Any major and any minor 3 octaves scale with arpeggios

b. One etude/caprice (select from the following):

- F. Kreutzer, 42 Etudes for Violin(Egelhoff edition): 17,

- P. Rode,  24 Caprices for Solo Violin: 2, 4, 6, or 9,

- J. Dont, Etudes Op.35: 2, 3, or 6

c. One self-selected showpiece piece (with accompaniment if available)

② Cello direction (no need to memorize the score)

a. Any major and any minor 3 octaves scale with arpeggios

b. One etude/caprice to select from:

- D. Popper, Highschool of Cello Playing, Op. 73

- A.C. Piatti, 12 Caprices for Solo Cello, Op. 25

c. One prelude and one other movement from Bach Suite No. 1, 2 or 3

d. One movement of a standard concerto

③ Piano direction (requiring memorization)

a. One Virtuoso Etude (i.e.:Moszkowski or F. Chopin Etudes)

b. First movement (Sonata-Allegro) of any Sonata from the Classical period

c. One polyphonic work by J. S. Bach to select from:

- Sinfonias / Three-part Inventions

- Prelude and Fugue from Well-Tempered Klavier Book I and II

- Two contrasting Baroque dances / movements from any of the French Suites, English Suites or Partitas

d. Any major work (one movement of complete-set work) from the Romantic period or 20th Century that best reflects your performing skills

④ Vocal direction

Submit two art songs or arias in different languages, from the following four languages:

a. English

b. Italian

c. German or French

d. Chinese or native language

(2) Video technology specifications

① The music videos must be complete scores with a full-length shot. The sound and image of the video should be recorded simultaneously. The videos must not be edited by the means such as conversion, cutting, clipping, and embellishing.

② A light-coloured background should be used during the recording; the record shall start from the candidate's front face (like the ID photo) and then pull to the full-body view. The video picture should be stable with a clear view of the applicant.

③ The applicant shall be the only person in the video. Accompaniment personnel, suggestive text, pattern, logo, background, or other personal information (the Name, place of origin and school of the candidate, etc.) are not allowed to appear in the video.

④ The number of videos is limited to 1 (two works are in the same video), the format is specified to WMV, MP4, AVI, MOV, make sure the sound and image are transparent. The file size is less than 300MB.

⑤ Any violation of any above provisions shall be deemed a breach and may result in disqualification from the preliminary examination.

(3) Handling of violations

Any violation of the above provisions will be considered a breach of rules and result in disqualification from the preliminary examination.

(II) Dance Performance

1. Basic conditions

•Height requirement: No less than 150cm for women and 170cm for men

•Professional foundation: Possess dance fundamentals and can perform flexibility exercises including vertical splits, horizontal splits, and standing backbends.

• Health status: physical and mental health, no physical problems that hinder dance performance

2. Video requirements

• Content: Submit two solo dance video clips, each lasting at least 5 minutes (excluding street dance and ballroom dance).

• Recording requirements:

① Venue: Dance rehearsal hall or stage theater

② Clothing: Training or performance attire

③Recording: Panoramic view, stable footage, synchronized music recording, no post-editing or beautification

• Format and size: WMV, MP4, AVI, MOV. The file size should not exceed 300 MB.

• Submission method: Send to email ioccaa@cdu.edu.cn, email subject: name - undergraduate - dance performance - passport number

3. Handling of violations

Any violation of the above provisions will be considered a breach of rules and result in disqualification from the preliminary examination.

School of Film and Animation

(I) Animation

Required submission: one set of art portfolio

The content must include:

1. At least 10 works, such as sketches, color paintings, quick sketches, character designs, and scene designs.

2. A description of the work, explaining its theme, content, and the creator's contribution to the creation.

(II) Radio & Television Editing and Directing

1. Creative materials:

A: Films and television programs

• Duration must be at least 5 minutes

• Format as MP4

B: Film and television literary scripts

• No less than 20 scenes

• A Chinese translation is required

•Explain the theme and content of the work (highlighting personal contributions), with a minimum of 2000 words (both Chinese and English are acceptable)

2. Other materials:

① Educational background and awards (from primary to high school)

② Documentation of creative process (including script synopsis, shooting outline, storyboards, location notes, and work photos)

③ learning plan

(III) Digital Media Arts

Required documents:

1. A digital image creative work

• Duration ≥30 seconds

• Format as MP4

• Requires both Chinese and English subtitles

• The work should possess visual modeling, creative expression, and aesthetic cultural connotation

2. A digital file set of the artwork's original sketches or line drawings

3. A creative statement (in Chinese, no less than 500 words)

Annex 4: Assessment Criteria for Master's Majors

School of Fine Arts and Design

Art Design

Required documents:

1. Create a portfolio and include a description of the work (explaining the reason for creation and the significance of the work)

2. A specialized research paper

The thesis is about the integration of science, technology and art, and the influence of science and technology on art.

• Specific requirements:

a. The title is self-proposed.

b. The argument is clear.

c. Discuss the integration of technology with the development of modern world art

d. The structure is clear and the key points are highlighted.

e. Word count: 1,500-3,000 words (both Chinese and English are acceptable)

Note: Upon enrollment, the School of Fine Arts and Design will administer a professional competency test for 2026 international master's students. If the test results do not match the submitted application materials, or if plagiarism or falsification is detected, the school will initiate the expulsion process.


School of Music and Dance

Music

1. Written material

School of Film, Television and Animation

New Media Art Communication

Required documents:

1. A collection of videos or new media works

The content must include at least some of the following formats:

Short videos, digital videos, video effects, online audiovisual content, cultural heritage derivatives, interactive imagery, AR/VR/MR, naked-eye 3D, holographic videos, and more

2. A research proposal

• Word count: over 1,000 words

• Language: Chinese, or English with a Chinese translation
