Prof. Wilson Chu

Prof. Wilson Chu(朱威锦), concert-pianist, improviser, composer and piano pedagogue. Since the beginning of 2019 until now, he is the youngest Associate Professor of Piano in the College of Chinese & ASEAN Arts (CCAA), Chengdu University, China and in charge of the recruitment committee.


At the age of 15, Wilson holds the Indonesian Record of the highest ABRSM Piano Grade 8 (148 of 150). Wilson received full scholarships throughout his Diploma, Bachelor and Masters studies at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Singapore and Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (First Class Honors Bachelor and Masters Degree). Among his teachers are Aaron Shorr, Jonathan Plowright, Steven Osborne, Roy Howat, Rickie Oui, Rose Mery Halim and Rena Phua.


He won many international prizes, including 1st Lamond Prize, 1st Russian Prize, 1st Duo Lieder Prize, 3rd Debussy Prize, 3rd Recital Competition in the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, 2nd Prize Lucien Wang NAFA Recital Competition, etc. He has performed concerts with RCS Symphony Orchestra, Glasgow Chamber Orchestra, to name a few.


Wilson has given recitals in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Gothenburg, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Chengdu, Beijing, Jakarta, Singapore etc. He has been featured in international press, like The Straits Times Singapore, The Jakarta Post, The Herald Scotland and Chinese press.


Wilson enjoys teaching, giving masterclasses and being invited to adjudicate international piano competitions in China, Singapore, Indonesia, UK etc. His students have won many international prizes in piano competitions in the USA, Mexico, Poland, UK, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand and China. Many of his students received scholarships to study at several top universities in Europe and the US.


In February 2023, he was accepted to be the first Steinway Teacher & Educational Partner (STEP) in Indonesia and actively collaborated as Steinway Ambassador with Steinway Gallery in Indonesia, and Asian countries.


In June 2023, Wilson was honored to be appointed as the Ambassador of Royal Conservatoire of Scotland for Indonesia and Asia.
