Mikko Hannula is a Finnish educator and product designer specialising in furniture. His passion is to create poetic and playful products that enrich people’s lives by making the everyday experience more delightful. Mikko wants his designs to spark people’s imagination and encourage interaction and reflection. In his work there is often a dialogue between contemporary and traditional, industrial and handmade, design and art. Mikko believes these contrasts lead to more meaningful and exciting outcomes. To him, every project is unique since his process is always guided by material properties, manufacturing technologies and user needs.
Having worked as a product designer in the UK and Finland since 2013, Mikko has gained broad experience in the field. He holds a master’s degree in furniture design from Buckinghamshire New University, England and since his graduation he has been designing products for residential as well as public sector. His former employers range from big furniture manufacturers to small design studios.
Since autumn 2023, Mikko have been teaching various courses at CCAA’s product design department at Chengdu University. Here his goal is to pass on to his students all the skills and knowledge he has gained throughout the years when working as a designer in Europe.
