At the recently concluded 3rd National International Chinese Language Education and Teaching Skills Competition, two international students from College of Chinese & ASEAN Arts, Chengdu University — NGUYEN QUANG HUY (Vietnam) and NGUYEN TUAN ANH (Vietnam) — successfully advanced to the national finals and delivered outstanding performances to win the Excellence Award. Co-hosted by the Shaanxi International Chinese Education Research Association and Xi’an International Studies University, the competition attracted 484 contestants from 126 colleges and universities across the country.

This competition was divided into three tracks: the Undergraduate Group, the Postgraduate Group, and the International Student Group. The competition sections included lesson presentation, classroom teaching, Chinese-English Q&A, and Chinese talent show, which comprehensively assessed the contestants' international Chinese language teaching abilities and cross-cultural communication literacy. At the opening ceremony, distinguished guests including Wu Yaowu, President of Xi’an International Studies University, and renowned writer Jia Pingwa delivered speeches successively, emphasizing the important significance of Chinese language education in cultural inheritance and international exchanges.

During the competition, NGUYEN QUANG HUY and NGUYEN TUAN ANH closely integrated their artistic professional characteristics with Chinese language teaching scenarios. With elaborate teaching design, fluent language expression and vivid classroom style, they fully demonstrated their solid Chinese foundation and unique cross-cultural teaching thinking. Standing out among competitors from all over the country, they finally won the Excellence Award.

Despite not majoring in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages, NGUYEN QUANG HUY and NGUYEN TUAN ANH have a profound and enduring passion for Chinese learning and teaching. NGUYEN QUANG HUY loves reciting classic texts and is fascinated by the beauty of calligraphy. He also actively uses new media platforms to spread the charm of Chinese — he runs an account on Douyin, where he continuously shares Chinese recitation videos and interprets the allure of the language with sincere emotions. Having learned Chinese for just over a year, NGUYEN TUAN ANH, in addition to being diligent and reflective in class, particularly enjoys reading works by renowned modern and contemporary Chinese writers such as Lin Yutang in his spare time. Through the influence of literature, he constantly deepens his understanding of Chinese and Chinese culture.

Though they did not win the top prize in this competition, the two students’ passion for Chinese language teaching remains undiminished; on the contrary, it has further strengthened their determination to pass on what they have learned and realized to more learners. With practical actions, they are fulfilling the mission of cross-cultural communication, steadily growing from Chinese language learners into active disseminators of Chinese culture.
In the future, International Department of College of Chinese & ASEAN Arts will continue to uphold the educational philosophy of "teaching students in accordance with their aptitude" and fully tap into the individual strengths of international students. Through the dual-drive model of "Chinese Language + Major", it will tailor personalized growth paths for students from diverse backgrounds, encouraging them to enhance their Chinese application and teaching abilities while advancing their artistic expertise. The college will strive to cultivate more compound international talents who are proficient in both art and language, contributing to the diversified dissemination of Chinese culture on the global stage.
